Presca, a UK sportswear brand hopes to revolutionize the market with its Kickstarter project. The project is aimed at creating a fully circular performance apparel line.
The company along with Poseidon Plastics and a team at Tesside University aim to scale production as they have met their funding requirements. The collection is called ‘Forever Tee’, which comprises a synthetic top made from recycled plastic bottles and other waste products.
The CEO of Presca, Rob Webbon stated that creating a circular approach for their full range had always been the focus of their ambition and has been the essence to continue their journey at a sustainable pace.
He added that they were pleased to have secured funding that would allow them to take significant steps towards making that ambition a reality.
After securing all the resources required, Presca is ready to get into the production stage and develop sportswear that can act as the guiding principles of a circular economy.
Extracting the knowledge of experts at Teesside University and the plastic supply of Poseidon, the company is ready to produce Forever Tees from clear plastic bottle waste. The brand also hopes to extend its knowledge and encompass colored plastic bottles as well.
Once they have all their technicalities in place the company believes that it has the ability to bring something unique to the market like a jersey that can be mechanically recycled at its end of life and reproduce again.
The company has established an in-house recycling infrastructure to enable a one-way relationship between the shoppers and the brand.
Webbon stated that every second the equivalent of one truckload of clothing is landfilled or incinerated. He further added that only 1% of clothing is currently being recycled into new garments.
He concluded that the project will allow them to establish a process and strategy in which they can bring a visible and scalable circular range to the retail market.
