Pochampally IKAT art mela kicks off

Pochampally IKAT art Mela 2017 a hand woven eco friendly handloom products exhibition kick started exhibiting exclusive handloom products like handmade bed and home linen, dress materials, silk and cotton saris in exquisite designs and contemporary colours by famous designers, skillfully created by world famous weavers of Pochampally.

The mela was inaugurated by the former Mayor, Veera Raghavamma and her husband, Adi Reddy Apparao, Member, AP Legislative Council, while the Municipal Corporator Medapati Sharmila Reddy lit the traditional lamp and Bhavani, graced the occasion.

On the occasion Veera Raghavamma and Adi Reddy, said that it’s nice to see various apparel, particularly Ikat Fabrics, silk and cotton saris, to be showcased for the Hand loom Fashion Connoisseurs in City.

Handlooms are a part of an age old Indian tradition and are an element of the Indian culture and rich artistry, said Sharmila . They support the artisans and local community who have been passing on their skills for generations.

Each design was display at the Mela is an individual artisan’s creativity which is influenced by the local traditions and cultures.

The seven day Pochampally IKAT art Mela is held at Sri Uma Ramalingeswara Swamyvari Kalyana Mandapam, Jampet in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh.
