Piana Technology, a 439-year-old textile firm known for advances in the fiber and nonwoven textiles markets, has certified its Piana Nonwovens facilities to the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS). The RCS is an internationally accepted standard for verifying recycled material and tracking it all the way to the end product.
RCS certification, which was created by Textile Exchange, a global non-profit organization dedicated to advancing preferred fibers and materials, has expanded the usage of recycled content in the textile industry. Only materials that have been recovered or otherwise diverted from the solid waste stream are eligible for a recycled content claim. In a business-to-business transaction, the certification process demands participants to achieve standard compliance at each stage of the supply chain, starting with raw material (or recycling) suppliers and ending with the final sale.
Michael Savarie, Piana Technology’s Sustainability Manager, said that this RCS accreditation represents a significant step forward in Piana Technology's overall goal of achieving sustainability in their materials and product circularity. They can now be assured that the products they source have fewer impacts than their conventional counterparts, allowing us to go forward with our sustainability mission. Piana Nonwovens joins a growing network of environmentally responsible enterprises on the path to sustainability by achieving RCS accreditation.
The newly certified factories in Cartersville, GA, and San Luis, AZ, are qualified to accept, manufacture, and distribute RCS goods that meet the severe requirements of the standards. This enables Piana Nonwovens to include recycled materials into its environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures and operations.
