PHMEA demands abolition on import duties and taxes on polyester yarn

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2018-01-18 11:00:00 – Karachi

The Pakistan government had recently imposed total duties and taxes, including anti-dumping duty, account for 30 percent on the import of polyester yarn making it difficult for the polyester-based sportswear industry of Sialkot to compete in the international market.

The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMEA) central chairman Khurram Anwar Khawaja expressed concern over increasing taxes on the import of polyester yarn, saying the step has directly affected the sportswear industry.

Khawaja demanded that the government should abolish all duties and taxes imposed on the polyester yarn so that sportswear manufacturers and exporters can compete in global markets.

Anti-dumping duty is also imposed on the polyester fully drawn yarn that is not locally manufactured, which is against laws.
