London-based materials science company, Pangaia, has revealed carbon reduction goals and progress towards establishing an Earth positive business model.
The announcement was accompanied by a short film that illustrates Pangaia's ethos of 'high-tech naturalism,' demonstrating how Pangaia is uniquely positioned as a Nature-As-A-Solution (NAAS) company, with multiple business lines including R&D, DTC, and B2B, thanks to its innovation that is inspired by, and created in partnership with, nature.
Since its inception in 2019, the company has quickly established itself as a market leader by bringing problem-solving science to life. Nothing is out of reach for the materials science company that sits at the nexus of science, purpose, and design in a world full of materials. Pangaia is developing an Earth-positive business model, one that is better for the planet than if it did not exist.
In 2021, the company became carbon-negative (Scope 1,2,3) by offsetting carbon emissions from its products and operations. Pangaia goes above and beyond to support biodiversity and plant/protect/restore trees around the world through the Tomorrow Tree Fund, in addition to manufacturing carbon-neutral products.
It now pledges to reduce carbon emissions in accordance with science-based benchmarks (SBTs). By 2025, Pangaia will have achieved net-zero operations (Scope 1) and will be entirely powered by renewable energy. Along with additional promises to cut emissions by half by 2030 (Scope 1, 2, 3) and become carbon-neutral by 2040 (Scope 1, 2, 3).
Pangaia's scientific and collaborative business model will go beyond carbon offsetting to find active reduction solutions, such as working with suppliers to transition to renewable energy, investing in material science innovations to develop lower-emission products, and supporting carbon-sinking projects, to achieve these reductions.
The disclosure of the company's carbon reduction goals coincides with the launch of a manifesto and film on February 22. The movie, which was created to solidify Pangaia's position as a platform for materials science research and application, introduces Nature as the greatest innovator of all time and reaffirms why Pangaia innovates: for a planet where humans and nature coexist.
