Pangaia and Avantium collaborate on plant-based apparel collection

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-12-01 16:58:36 – Netherlands

Pangaia and Dutch renewable chemistry company Avantium are joining forces to create a sustainable apparel collection. This collaboration is centered around Avantium's 100% plant-based polymer known as polyethylene furanoate (PEF). PEF, often hailed as the next generation polyester, is derived from furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA).

The development of this sustainable collection aims to harness the eco-friendly properties of PEF in the fashion industry. Considered a promising alternative to traditional polyester, PEF is derived from furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA). The collaboration seeks to explore the potential of PEF in fashion, aligning with the growing demand for eco-conscious materials in the apparel industry.

The first commercial facility for PEF production is currently being constructed in Delfzijl, Netherlands. Anticipated to commence large-scale production in the second half of 2024, this facility represents a significant step forward in making PEF more widely available for sustainable fashion applications. Pangaia and Avantium's partnership is poised to contribute to the advancement of environmentally friendly materials in the apparel sector.
