The all popular diapers brand Pampers have introduced Pampers Preemie Swaddlers. These are diapers designed specifically to support the development of a premature infant that weighs less than four pounds by protecting their sleep.

It is well known that sleep is crucial for a premature infant as it allows their body to grow and develop brain maturity. A recent study showed how changing diapers for a premature baby was as stressful as inserting a Catheter, Nasal CPAP, or Heel prick. Pampers Preemie Swaddlers are carefully designed to help reduce the stressful diaper changes and outside disruptions, such as leakage by offering up to six hours of absorption. The new launch of diapers is also to help support the natural position of the baby in its sleep.

Lynn Schuetz, senior director of R&D at P&G informed that when the babies are in the womb the natural and nurturing environment allows them to develop physically as well as neurologically. He further said that when they come out earlier than expected their sleep becomes all the more important. That's why he is excited to bring this product to the preemies by distributing it into the hands of the hospitals taking care of them.

The new diapers include Swaddlers Ultra Leakguards with dual-layered cuffs to lock in leaks. They are said to have a reversible diaper design with ComfortFit including soft, stretchy and re-attachable tabs for a customizable fit. To ensure that the baby’s skin stays dry it comes with breathable layers containing thousands of micro-pores. The softness of the product guarantees comfort to the baby.

The development of this product was made keeping in mind the baby’s caregiver. Pampers knew bringing the NICU nurses who change diapers 6 to 8 times a day was a crucial process to ensure the product was comfortable, gentle and yet effective. 

Schuetz stated that being a category leader in the preemie space it was their responsibility to evolve their products as the need of the babies. He further said that it was important for them to gain knowledge from the NICU nurses while creating their product. He believes that as a part of their commitment to healthy, happy development of babies it involves being committed to those who serve them on a daily basis.

The product supports babies under 1800mg and is available in P3 and P2 sizes across selected hospitals in the U.S.
