Pak keen on enhancing bilateral trade to up £3b with UK

Pakistan’s trade with England currently stands at 2 billion pounds out of which Pakistan’s exports are 1.4 billion pounds. Federal Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan on Wednesday expressed the government is determine to augment bilateral trade up to 3 billion pounds with United Kingdom in the coming years.

The minister during his meeting with Syed Ibn-e-Abbas, Pakistan’s High-Commissioner-designate to England who will be assuming his responsibilities in the first week of September said that the Ministry of Commerce was looking for new high-growth sectors of exports to give a new boost to Pak-Britain trade. The Ministry is promoting the export of high value-added textile products to England while there is a great scope of import of sophisticated services and consultancies from England,

England has a huge Pakistani dPiaspora, which is settled there since decades. They are working in every sector and provide huge revenue through the remittances they send back to Pakistan. At the same time expressed concern that the Pakistani companies are not well established in the vast financial markets of Britain.

The High Commissioner has been directed to engage the Pakistani community settled in Britain and guide them about the latent business and trade opportunities that Britain offers. According to Abbas, his top priority will be to boost Pakistan’s trade with Britain and for that he will keep a constant connection with the Pakistani community in Britain.
