Packaging manufacturers Packhelp have partnered with environmental NGO, One Tree Plants to kick start an undertaking that will plant new trees to offset the operational impact of Packhelp.
The company claims to have designed a sustainable form of packaging that utilizes FSC certified materials, natural glues and inks make from soy and vegetable oils to ensure that once the product is dispatched it is both biodegradable and compostable.
Packhelp’s co-founder, Konrad Kwiatkowski, stated that as a start-up they have the opportunity to make a real difference in the way their products are manufactured. This means that the end-users have access to a sustainable packing solution.
The figures estimate that over 80,000 trees are felled on a daily basis to supplement the demand for products such as cellulosic textile fiber and product packaging. Keeping this estimate in mind, Packhelp has developed a packaging design using FSC-certified materials and other components that ensure it biodegrades and partnered with One Tree Planted to offset the impact of people on the environment.
Through this partnership, the company is accountable for all its orders and will calculate the number of trees it accounts for before replanting to create a balance.
Kwiatkowski stated that as a packaging manufacturer they realize that they have a great deal of responsibility to ensure their carbon footprint was as low as possible. He added that they were aware that 78% of brand owners favor sustainable materials and 66% of end customers prefer brands with a sustainable pledge. The brand hopes to meet these growing needs.
The company is likely to introduce 10 “eco-friendly” types of packaging by the end of the year. This will also entice many fashion industry stakeholders to become more circular and adapt better packaging strategies.
