Oxfam to do charity show during London Fashion Week

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-01-03 12:44:06 – United Kingdom

During the next London Fashion Week, which is scheduled to run from February 17 to 21, charity retailer Oxfam will offer a new installment of its second-hand fashion show.

The event, called "Fashion Fighting Poverty 23," is sponsored by Ebay and will feature "personalities" modeling about 40 looks rather than actual models.

Bay Garnett, a famous stylist and independent fashion advisor for Oxfam, selected the outfits. She told the PA news agency that she chose about 80 pieces of apparel, describing the usage of secondhand clothing at such an occasion as "very necessary."

Garnett said that this is what people want to buy so much more now. Therefore, you can't just have collections that are about brand-new clothing anymore because it would be out of touch with both the literal climate and the climate of what people want to buy and wear right now.

A variety of pre-owned high-street apparel, vintage treasures, and secondhand designer pieces will be used in the looks.

Each piece will be auctioned off on Ebay for a week after the show, with all proceeds going to Oxfam.

The charity’s retail director, Lorna Fallon, added that Fashion Fighting Poverty is a celebration of Oxfam's fashionable, sustainable, second-hand clothing, which is better for their wallets, the earth, and all of its inhabitants. They don't have a seasonal or new collection to exhibit, unlike other shows at London Fashion Week. Instead, outfits will be tailored to suit each individual on the catwalk. This captures the excitement of finding distinctive, reasonably priced clothing as well as the wide variety in their stores, where everyone can find something that suits them.
