Outlast explores aerogel insulation for military clothing

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-09-11 13:55:30 – Germany

Outlast Technologies, based in Germany, is exploring sportswear and military applications for its thin and lightweight Aersulate insulation technology following positive initial tests with potential customers. The company developed Aersulate using Naerogel, an aerogel material supplied by Swedish company Svenska Aerogel. Outlast is now discussing possible applications with companies in the sportswear and military sectors.

For Aersulate, Outlast has incorporated Naerogel into a textile insulation designed to provide thermal protection in a thin and lightweight form. This could be particularly useful for performance sportswear and military clothing, where reducing garment bulk while maintaining protection against cold temperatures is an ongoing challenge.

According to Outlast, initial tests for these applications have produced positive results. The findings have encouraged the company to continue discussions with potential customers and explore further applications.

“Sportswear and military products are areas where thin, lightweight insulation could offer valuable benefits,” said Martin Bentz, CEO of Outlast Technologies. “We are exploring potential applications with companies in these sectors, and the positive initial test results encourage us to pursue these opportunities further.”
