YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2014-03-21 14:30:00 – CUTTACK

Orissa and its people now find a way out of their misery as one of the major industries in Choudwar region, Odisha Textile Mills, has chances of opening once again.

The Odisha Textile Mills had a work force of over 3000, OTM was effective in providing clothing for much of India and it garnered several awards. But it had to shut down its operations in June 2001 owing to mishandling of company funds by the higher management.

After its closure, thousands of workers turned jobless. The Shramik Parivar Sangh revolted against this act and demanded for revival of the OTM and other closed industries in the region such as the unit of Ballarpur Industries LTD., which was also closed down in 2003.

Kailash Sahani, leader of Shramik Parivar Sangh (workers' families association) said that ever since the factory was declared sick and closed, its revival has been a major poll issue in every municipal and assembly elections. But the government and elected candidates have done little on the issue.

But now as elections are drawing near ,the government officials have decided to look upon the resurgence of this government – owned company and revitalize the stagnant lives of the workers ,too.
