Netherlands' Stahl receives highest EcoVadis Platinum rating

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-09-28 18:53:45 – Netherlands

The highest EcoVadis Platinum rating has been given to Stahl, an active proponent of responsible chemistry, placing it among the top 1% of businesses evaluated by EcoVadis. The honor highlights Stahl's dedication to working with its partners to lessen its impact on the environment and create a more accountable and transparent supply chain.

The performance of more than 90,000 organizations is evaluated using EcoVadis, a renowned evidence-based assessment platform, according to major sustainability criteria. These include the impact on the environment, labor and human rights laws, morality, and ethical purchasing procedures. The most recent EcoVadis study, according to a press statement from Stahl, "highlights Stahl's strong growth across all four areas and builds on the Gold rating received by the company in 2021."

By collaborating closely with its value-chain partners to help them reduce their environmental effect, especially by supporting their transition to renewable feedstocks, Stahl's 2030 aim is to preserve the EcoVadis Platinum accreditation. Eighty percent of the total amount Stahl spent on raw materials in 2021 came from EcoVadis-rated vendors.

As Stahl steps up its efforts to provide a more accountable and transparent supply chain, the new EcoVadis rating is announced. The company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) department recently created a dedicated Supply Chain Transparency section as one of the latest steps toward achieving this aim. The division will be in charge of organizing a framework for developing new products that have an emphasis on acquiring raw materials responsibly.

Additionally, in July 2022, Stahl filed a revised goal for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which included a particular pledge for the firm's Scope 3 upstream emissions. In comparison to the base year, Stahl hopes to cut these by at least 25% over the next ten years (2021). In order to achieve this reduction, Stahl anticipates working with its suppliers to switch out fossil-based raw materials for alternatives that emit less carbon.

Ingrid Weijer, ESG performance manager, said that achieving an EcoVadis Platinum certification is additional proof of Stahl's stronger ESG emphasis and their commitment to working with their suppliers and other industry partners to decrease their environmental effect and establish a more responsible value chain. Working together, they can accomplish their shared goal of assisting in keeping the rise in the global temperature to 1.5°C over pre-industrial levels by 2050, as stipulated in the 2015 Paris Climate Accords.
