Ndeshihafela Larandja, the Mayor of Windhoek, recently hosted Indian High Commissioner Rahul Shrivastava to discuss the potential for cooperation between Namibia and India at the municipal level. A key focus of their meeting was the prospect of developing large-scale textile manufacturing in Windhoek, as stated by the City of Windhoek.
High Commissioner Shrivastava highlighted the strong ties between the two nations and shared how Windhoek could benefit from India’s expertise in various areas. He emphasized India’s readiness to support Namibia in sectors where it has extensive experience.
Mayor Larandja acknowledged India’s well-established position in the global textile industry and expressed the City’s deep interest in strengthening this sector. She outlined plans to revive the existing Ramatex textile facilities with support from India’s advanced technology and industry knowledge, aiming to transform them into a major center for textile production.
She concluded by noting that this initiative has the potential to boost local manufacturing skills, create employment opportunities, and bring long-term economic benefits to both Windhoek and the broader Namibian economy.
