MyGroup unveils innovative textile recycling center in Hull, UK

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-09-18 17:05:26 – United Kingdom

Waste management company MyGroup has announced plans for a new factory in Hull, England, focusing on textile recycling. This initiative comes after a substantial £500,000 investment. The factory, covering 1,300 square meters, aims to generate approximately 30 job opportunities. Not only does this contribute to reducing the fashion industry's environmental impact, but it also aids in the city's economic growth.

This new factory will be situated in a former laboratory and office space within MyGroup’s recycling campus. The facility will house processes for recycling and remanufacturing waste textiles, involving sorting, grading, and a thorough cleaning cycle.

Additionally, there will be a deconstruction process to remove any hardware from the textiles. Subsequently, MyGroup’s ReFactory team will transform these textiles into new garments and other products within an on-site design studio.

The first phase of the factory is expected to conclude by Autumn, with subsequent phases, including sorting and washing spaces, to be completed later. An additional £400,000 investment is also planned for the location. The factory is projected to be fully operational by the spring of 2024.

Steve Carrie, Director of MyGroup, expressed their pride in launching this pioneering venture. It emphasizes their dedication to sustainability and innovation. MyGroup aspires to revolutionize how the industry approaches textile waste with an end-to-end recycling process and remanufacturing capabilities, making this factory a harbinger of the future.
