MycoWork commercially launches first products made using mycelium-based material

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-07-19 16:37:28 – USA

MycoWorks, a biomaterials inventor, has announced the commercial release of the first fashion products manufactured using its flagship mycelium material, Reishi™. The premium hatmaker Nick Fouquet's Reishi™ Collection comprises the Reishi™ Boletus, Coprinus, and Morchella hats, which are currently available in limited runs on NickFouquet.com.

Sophia Wang, MycoWorks Co-Founder & Chief of Culture, said that they’re overjoyed that consumers can now wear and appreciate items developed with Reishi™. "MycoWorks collaborates with artisans and companies who share their aesthetic beliefs, which is why they've teamed with renowned hatmaker Nick Fouquet. This Reishi™ series showcases their material's distinct hand feel and adaptability.

MycoWorks' Fine Mycelium™ technology designs mycelium - the eternally renewable root structure of mushrooms - as it develops to designers' exact requirements for hand feel, texture, strength, and utility, unlocking new design possibilities for businesses. As a consequence, Reishi™ is a premium, natural material that performs similarly to high-quality animal leathers while having a lesser environmental effect.

Nick Fouquet used all-natural, 10% plastic-free Reishi™ as the foundation material for the Reishi™ Boletus and as ornamental accents and trimmings for the Coprinus and Morchella in the Reishi™ Collection.

Nick Fouquet said that their clientele wants luxury produced from materials that feel wonderful and that they like. The only leather replacement they've encountered that approaches the beauty, craftsmanship, and utility of classic leather is MycoWorks' Reishi™. Reishi™ has an organic and rich texture, as well as a gorgeous, weathered patina, which we highlight via the diverse designs of their Reishi™ Collection.

The commercial availability of Reishi™ represents a significant step forward for fashion, which has long sought plastic-free, animal-free leather alternatives that match the quality demands of high-end design while leaving a smaller environmental imprint.

This year, MycoWorks will continue to commercialize Reishi™ through a carefully selected spectrum of brands, including legacy brands and new, independent designers.
