M&S and SOJO to launch clothing repair service

Marks and Spencer (M&S) is partnering with repair and alterations specialist SOJO to introduce a new clothing repair service, aimed at giving garments "another life" and supporting the circular economy.

Starting in August 2024, M&S customers will be able to book repair services through an online hub called M&S Fixed by SOJO. This initiative addresses the need for sustainable fashion options, as research by M&S shows that only 10% of consumers feel confident repairing their clothing, while 60% are looking for retailers to help reduce their carbon footprint.

The repair services will include zip replacements and invisible knitwear mending for M&S clothing. Customers can book these services via an online form, with costs starting at £5 ($6.32). Repaired items will be returned to customers within seven to ten days.

Richard Price, managing director of clothing & home at M&S, stated, “At M&S, exceptional quality products are at the heart of everything we do, and we want to ensure that all our clothes are too good to waste. Through the launch of our repair service, we’re making it even easier for customers to give their clothes another life.”

Josephine Phillips, CEO and founder of SOJO, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “It has always been a core mission of ours at SOJO to make repairing clothes mainstream and to extend the life of as many garments as possible. This partnership with M&S is a significant step towards that mission, bringing easy, accessible, and convenient repairs to the masses.”
