YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-04-15 08:55:59 – Italy

The Yoox Net-a-Porter Group-owned Mr Porter has debuted a new leather alternative sneaker made from grape waste under its own label brand, Mr. P.

The Larry Eco Edition sneaker is made from repurposed grape waste from the Italian wine industry, such as grape skins, stalks, and seeds, according to the company. It is made of raw vegetable bio-material that resembles traditional leather in appearance and feel. The internal lining is made of 100% recyclable polyester that is sweat-resistant and has an eight-fold water absorption ability. The soles of the shoes are made up of 30% recycled rubber.

The sneakers are manufactured in Portugal and come in black and white colorways. The company explained that it wants to provide its consumers with an environmentally friendly alternative to sneakers while also encouraging them to make more conscious wardrobe decisions.

In a release, the style director for Mr Porter, Olie Arnold said that they're ecstatic to give Mr P. consumers a new leather version of the famous Larry sneaker. Quality, craftsmanship, and trendy architecture are at the core of everything they do under their own label, so being able to reinvent and deliver a more environmentally friendly model while maintaining beauty and manufacturing excellence is a significant step forward for the company.
