Modern Meadow, SINGTEX Group introduce eco-friendly fabric

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-10-27 17:26:20 – USA

A New Jersey biotechnology company, Modern Meadow, has joined forces with Taiwan's SINGTEX Group, a global eco-friendly textile manufacturer, to introduce BIO-TEX™ SHIELD. It offers waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection while proudly featuring 58% bio-based materials. This innovative fabric was initially unveiled in March at the Performance Days event in Munich.

BIO-TEX™ SHIELD is an eco-friendly technology that does not use solvents or PFAS/PFC substances. It is perfect for use with bio-based fibers, paving the way for high-performance clothing made from renewable materials. This 2-layer fabric is not only environmentally friendly but also protective for the wearer. It is powered by BIO-ALLOY™, a creation by Modern Meadow that combines plant-based protein and biopolymer. This unique combination provides excellent resistance to wear and tear, extending the life of garments.

It can be used for both inner and outer layers and offers new possibilities for designs, including printing and dyeing on the garment itself. Its soft texture and versatility make it suitable for outerwear and soft equipment.

In skin-in applications, BIO-TEX™ SHIELD combines with a 100% cotton woven fabric, creating a product sourced from renewable materials. The fabric is printed using SINGTEX's recycled coffee printing technology called P4DRYTM. For skin-out applications, the fabric is applied to a blend of 69% cotton and 31% polyester knit fabric, resulting in futuristic high-performance textiles with bio-renewable properties.

Catherine Roggero-Lovisi, the CEO of Modern Meadow, applauds the partnership with SINGTEX Group and underscores the importance of innovation and purpose-driven collaborations. The BIO-TEX™ SHIELD project not only pushes the boundaries of performance but also emphasizes sustainability. Jason Chen, Chairman of SINGTEX Group, highlights the rapid development of this new fabric, showing the textile industry's shift towards improved performance and sustainability, all accomplished in under a year. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in textile technology.
