National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) keeping in view the Digital India Initiative of Government of India and for the benefit of handloom weavers and society has developed a handy tool, a mobile app 'E Dhaga'.
The app â€˜W Dhagaâ€™ will benefit handloom weavers to transact business anytime, anywhere and they can send their indents and payments online through this app. The weavers can also access the status of the shipment of the despatched material, thereby, enhancing transparency.
The â€˜E Dhaga appâ€™ was launched by the Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani on in a programme organized at Handloom Haat, Janpath in presence of Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta.
Textiles Minister Irani in her address stated that the app seeks to address concerns of individual weavers such as availability of raw material, delays in supplies and ensuring stocks in depots. She congratulated NHDC and its team for taking up the development of the app in a very short time.
To give a boost to the Governmentâ€™s Digital India initiative, NHDC from December 19 onwards will accept all payments through real time gross settlement (RTGS)/ national electronic funds transfer (NEFT) or the digital mode, said Sarvepalli Srinivas, Managing Director, NHDC.
NHDC will also place the latest three monthsâ€™ yarn procurement of societies from NHDC in the public domain.
During the launch event, a live demo was also conducted, which was attended by the handloom weavers of various states who also downloaded the app. The app will is available in Hindi, English and Telugu. It will also be available in other languages such as Bengali, Odiya, Assamese, Kannada, Tamil and Urdu by mid January.
