Microban International, a global leader in product protection technologies, has introduced H2O Shield, a water-resistant textile finish that is completely free from PFAS and PFOS chemicals. This launch marks Microban’s first step beyond its core antimicrobial and odor control solutions, representing a major expansion of its product offerings.

H2O Shield is developed in response to increasing demand for safer and more eco-friendly textile treatments. It offers a reliable alternative for brands looking to move away from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), including PFOS, which are widely used but raise concerns due to their long-lasting nature and potential health impacts.

The H2O Shield range includes four customized water-repellent options, each designed to meet specific performance and appearance needs for textile manufacturers and brands.

For fabrics that are usually harder to treat, Microban has also developed WR-P, an optional pretreatment. WR-P increases the compatibility of fabrics, reduces the amount of water-repellent agent needed by 15–20%, and improves wash durability of the final finish.

In addition to its water-repelling properties, H2O Shield is fully compatible with Microban’s existing antimicrobial and odor control technologies, allowing brands to combine different performance finishes in one product.
