Malawi adds one more cotton ginnery to boost its economy

Malawi government’s plan to add cotton Ginnery in Karonga District with the vision to not only improve its economy by exporting more volumes of cotton and boost more foreign exchange for smooth running of government but create more employment opportunities is well in line.

The Malawi President commissioned the Ngara Cotton Ginnery in the area of Traditional Authority Mwirang'ombe in the district. This is one of the three [cotton] ginneries constructed in all the regions of Malawi within two years.

The construction of Ngara Cotton Ginnery will increase Malawi's cotton processing capacity to the extent that Malawi is likely to earn around MK6 billion from cotton per year.

Starting from this year (2014), almost ten million tons of cotton will be manufactured within four months in Karonga. This development has draw attention of Germany and South Africa which are amongst the biggest cotton buyers in the world.

Both Germany and South Africa have since promised to buy the Malawi Product.
