Maharashtra to set up special textile park to create eco friendly textile

Consortium of Green Fashion, a unique programme was organised jointly by School of Fashion Technology and Nirmala Niketan College of Home Science on 9th February at Birla Auditorium, Churchgate, Mumbai. Chandrakant (Dada) Patil, Textile Minister, speaking at an industry event, announced that Maharashtra government is planning to set up a special textile park to create eco-friendly textile and lend special assistance for establishing such industries.

He urged the students pursuing fashion design to conduct more research with a view to increasing implementation of such eco-friendly initiatives. He also emphasized that cultivating cotton in an eco-friendly manner using natural manure and conserving natural resources are the need of the hour. He also noted that ‘Recyle, Reuse and Reduce’ should be the key objective while creating any design.

Renowned Institutions/Representatives of Institutions, Fashion Designers from India, Germany, Italy, London and nearly 1000 Fashion Designing students across 11 Fashion Institutions in the Country participated in this initiative.

Different competitions based on the concept of Green Fashion were conducted for students. Also a Fashion show was conducted based on the key concept, Recycle, Reuse and Reduce. Garment designs based on 10 different concepts by girl students of Fashion Designing were presented in this Fashion show.

Green Fashion means concept, design and creation of textiles in an eco-friendly manner. Cultivating cotton using no chemical and only natural fertilizers as well as sustenance and conversation of environment is a global need and special efforts need to be made to achieve this.
