The LYCRA Company has announced a strategic partnership with Texhong International Group Limited, one of the world’s leading suppliers of core-spun cotton textiles.

As part of this agreement, Texhong will work exclusively with The LYCRA Company to introduce Renewable LYCRA fiber, made with 30% plant-based content. The goal of this collaboration is to support the wider use of bio-based spandex in the global textile and apparel industry.

This renewable fiber is a recent development by The LYCRA Company in its efforts to create more sustainable materials. It is partly made from dent corn and is designed to offer the same stretch, comfort, and durability as traditional LYCRA® fiber made from fossil-based sources. A recent life cycle assessment shows that it can reduce carbon emissions by up to 32% compared to conventional LYCRA® fiber.

Jason Wang from The LYCRA Company stated that this partnership highlights the company’s strength in developing sustainable fiber solutions. He added that Renewable LYCRA® fiber is ready for large-scale use, and working with Texhong will help expand its production and adoption. The company also aims to promote the use of innovative and lower-impact materials across the textile value chain.
