The Lycra Company is launching its new Lycra VintageFX fibre at the Kingpins Amsterdam exhibition this week. The new fibre is designed to give denim an authentic vintage appearance while maintaining the comfort, fit, and shape retention expected from modern stretch fabrics. It allows brands to create classic-looking denim styles without compromising on performance.
Developed for denim and other woven fabrics, VintageFX helps recreate rigid, heritage-inspired designs while ensuring durability, recovery, and wearer comfort. This supports the growing trend of looser silhouettes, such as wide-leg and flared styles, where maintaining proper fit can be challenging.
The fibre uses a proprietary, patent-pending formula and works alongside traditional Lycra in a dual-core structure. During the finishing process, it shrinks under heat, helping control stretch, protect the yarn core, and improve shape retention. This reduces issues like sagging and bagging. It also offers low growth, strong recovery even after heavy washing and bleaching, and improved seam strength.
Garments made with this fibre are eligible for Lycra Xtra Life branding at the point of sale, highlighting their durability and long-lasting performance.
The fibre has successfully passed strict testing to ensure consistent quality and performance. Brands and mills can also collaborate with Lycra through its Lycra Labs platform to develop innovative and customised stretch fabric solutions.
