Montreal-based Loop Industries has introduced Twist, a new circular polyester resin created entirely from textile waste. The company is currently in talks with apparel brands to supply Twist through its upcoming joint venture in India. Twist will be Loop’s branded product, originally developed as a fibre-grade PET resin but renamed to highlight its role in moving the textile sector from a linear system to a circular one, reducing reliance on virgin materials and bottle-to-textile recycling.

Using Loop’s patented depolymerization technology, Twist is made by breaking polyester textile waste down into its core building blocks, DMT and MEG. These are then purified back to their original quality before being turned into Twist resin. This process removes all dyes, colors, contaminants, and blends, resulting in a resin that is chemically the same as virgin polyester.

Twist delivers high purity, consistent color, and dyeing quality while improving production efficiency. It is also fully compatible with existing spinning and manufacturing setups, making adoption easy for textile producers.

Twist is also the first polyester resin made from textiles to offer complete traceability. Special chemical tracers are embedded in the resin, allowing brands to track finished products back to the original textile waste. This system ensures full transparency at every stage of recycling and production.

The resin will be scaled from Loop’s Terrebonne facility and manufactured at its Infinite Loop India plant. This facility is strategically set up to supply global textile and apparel companies, offering Twist at competitive prices. With its mix of performance, affordability, transparency, and sustainability, Twist is positioned as a strong choice for brands aiming to achieve circularity goals.
