Levi’s partners with Naomi Osaka for upcycled collection

US-based denim brand, Levi’s is collaborating with the 23-year-old tennis superstar, ranked second in the world, Naomi Osaka to launch a limited-edition denim collection made of vintage or upcycled denim.

Osaka created four unique outfits with silhouettes and design features that represent her sporty yet feminine style as well as her Japanese heritage, working closely with Levi’s design team.

The women’s collection includes two styles of shorts: a vintage 501 denim short with Y2K-worthy crystal fringe flowing down the sides and a knee-grazing long-short with lace-up detailing on the back fashioned from pairs of recycled men’s jeans.

The lace-up theme is replicated in a denim bustier fashioned from redesigned Levi’s Trucker jackets. The bustier is styled after the legendary Type III Trucker jacket, with the same classic lines, flap pockets, and shank buttons, but in the shape and fit of a traditional corset-style bustier with a lace-up back. With a denim kimono and matching obi belt, the ensemble pays homage to Osaka’s Japanese heritage.

The Levi’s x Naomi Osaka Collaboration will be available exclusively on Levi’s App on August 24 in the United States. The price range for the collection is $150-$380.

In the promotion video for the collection, Osaka said that when they were younger, her little sister and she would go on long car journeys and drive for hours and hours, having small fashion design wars and having her father select the winner, so it’s always been a thing for them.
