Levi Strauss & Co., the US-based fashion retailer, has announced the launch of its LS&Co. Energy Accelerator Program (LEAP) to help more of its suppliers in India gain access to renewable energy.
The program is designed to connect renewable electricity supply in India with the growing demand from suppliers looking to cut emissions and strengthen their resilience. To achieve this, LS&Co. has partnered with Schneider Electric, a leader in digital energy management and automation, to increase renewable electricity access across its supply chain, starting in India.
Jeffrey Hogue, LS&Co.’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said: “We are committed to expanding renewable energy in our supply chain. Our strategy to cut supply chain emissions relies on proven, scalable solutions that meet supplier needs. With Schneider Electric’s expertise and the wide range of renewable opportunities in India, we can better support suppliers in their sustainability goals while delivering on our own.”
The program supports LS&Co.’s target to cut supply chain emissions by 42% by 2030, compared to 2022 levels, and is part of its broader plan to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
In its first stage, LEAP will focus on LS&Co.’s textile and apparel suppliers in India, with plans to expand to more partners and regions in the future. Suppliers can explore on-site solar projects, renewable energy certificates, or join group agreements such as power purchase agreements (PPAs).
