Lenzing Group invests to upgrade Indonesian facility for sustainablity

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-09-25 16:54:41 – Indonesia

Lenzing Group, a textile company, invested €100 million in upgrading its facility in Purwakarta, Indonesia, operated by PT. South Pacific Viscose. This modernization has significantly reduced emissions like sulfur and CO2 while also contributing to lower wastewater.

The EU Ecolabel, a trusted symbol for eco-conscious consumers, recognized the facility's shift to renewable energy sources and its move towards biomass. This aligns with Lenzing's larger goals of reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon-neutral production.

Lenzing's Indonesian site plans to produce Ecovero Black fibers in the future, using a spun-dyeing process that saves energy and water, resulting in a lower carbon footprint throughout the lifecycle of textile products.

Stephan Sielaff, CEO of the Lenzing Group, emphasized their commitment to making industries more sustainable and transforming the textile business model from linear to circular. The company's investments worldwide help meet the demand for eco-friendly fibers.

The EU Ecolabel certification now covers Lenzing's product range, enabling the production of sustainable viscose fibers like Lenzing Ecovero and Veocel. Lenzing believes promoting specialty fibers is crucial in addressing climate change and reducing environmental impact in the textile industry.

Lenzing's Ecovero and Veocel Viscose fibers have demonstrated a significantly lower environmental impact compared to conventional viscose production, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution.

Recently, Lenzing Group partnered with project44, a supply chain solutions company, to enhance transparency and efficiency, focusing on improving visibility of carbon emissions.
