Lenzing expands its denim portfolio with launch of matte Tencel™ lyocell fibers

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-10-20 13:37:51 – Austria

Austria-based largest viscose producer, Lenzing Group is expanding its sustainable offering for the denim industry, with the launch of matte TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibers. The new fiber type is specifically developed to disperse light and permanently reduce sheen in denim applications, allowing indigo-dyed denim fabrics to be more versatile.

Tricia Carey, director of Global Business Development Denim and Americas, Lenzing AG, said that as a fiber production leader, they collaborate closely with their clients and mill partners to meet their product requirements. They listened to their partners' requests for less glossy denim textiles."By implementing an innovative production process to produce matte TENCEL Lyocell fiber, they are setting a new standard for indigo applications.

While fashion trends come and go, denim is a wardrobe classic that will never go out of style. Brands are constantly looking to develop new denim lines that will appeal to their customers' fashion sense while also being more sustainable. By using raw resources of botanic origin and biodegradable cellulosic fibers, Lenzing is at the forefront of campaigning for comprehensive sustainability.

The introduction of matte TENCEL Lyocell fibers boosts denim design versatility while lowering the environmental imprint of the resulting fabric and garment, combining functionality and aesthetics. The new fiber type preserves all of the comfort benefits of normal TENCELTM Lyocell fibers while providing dark indigo dye fabrics a deep and lusterless appearance, thanks to a resource-efficient closed-loop production process.

Lenzing is proud to launch the new matte TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibers at the Kingpins Digital Show in collaboration with global mill partners Advance Denim (China), Artistic Fabric Mills Pvt. Ltd (Pakistan), Arvind Limited (India), Kipas Denim (Turkey), KG Denim Limited (India), Panther Denim/ Tat Fung (China), and Textil Santanderina (Spain).

Lenzing bears full responsibility for its manufacturing operations by using fiber identification technology to provide physical identification for every TENCEL branded fiber. Using this technology, the new matte TENCEL Lyocell fibers are fully traceable, assuring both brands and consumers that the raw materials used are sourced responsibly. In the long run, informed decision-making by all parties will help enhance the overall sustainability of the denim business.
