Lenzing achieves a new milestone

The Lenzing Group, a leading manufacturer of sustainably produced speciality fibres for the worldwide textile and nonwovens sectors, has announced that it is making significant progress achieving carbon neutrality across the group.

Another milestone in the group’s ambitious goal has been reached with the successful construction and commissioning of an air purification and sulphur recovery facility in Austria. Since the start of construction in 2019, Lenzing has invested around EUR 40 million in this project.

The factory will minimise carbon emissions by 15,000 metric tonnes per year at the Lenzing complex thanks to cutting-edge technologies. This will also increase the group’s self-sufficiency in obtaining critical raw materials for processing, boosting the site’s competitiveness in terms of long-term sustainability.

Member of the Managing Board at Lenzing Group, Christian Skilich, commented that Lenzing has made additional progress toward reaching its climate goals as a result of this investment, while also gaining significantly greater control over one of its core raw materials.

Lenzing declared a strategic goal in 2019 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of output by half by 2030. It intends to attain climate neutrality by 2050.
