Krishna Mehta, the first menswear designer of the country,focusing her energy on the age-old craft of Maheshwar from Madhya Pradesh for her men's and women's wear line at the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014, after shows in Mumbai featuring the traditional textiles of Gujarat and more recently the Manipur and Banaras.

The line is a stylish mix of elegant garments, in a range of handwoven fine Maheshwar cottons and silks created by using multiple innovative weaving techniques that compliment the materials. Highly artistic designs and vibrant colour combinations, with a profusion of prints, applique and embroidery techniques make this vivacious collection a celebration of the age-old weaving legacy of Indian craftsmen.

Innovative and conscious to fashion trends, Krishna makes use of printing and dyeing techniques derived from crafts and traditions across the world juxtaposing them with the vibrant handloom textiles to create a timelessly elegant line.

Krishna has since three decades, been supporting the cause of handmade textile and crafts from India, and giving them a fashionable, wearable form in a move to keep alive these traditional weaves and techniques.

Krishna, who has visited this region in the state of Madhya Pradesh over the past few months to work with the weavers on contemporizing their designs along with the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under their developmental and welfare programmes, will showcase the vibrant aspects of the rich handloom textiles and weaves of Maheshwar.

Krishna has been constantly challenging the boundaries of imagination while re-living the classic design fundamentals of the country with elegance and sensuality.
