Kontoor Brands broadens horizon of water-saving Indigood program

US -fashion company, Kontoor Brands, the owner of Wrangler and Lee, has announced the expansion of its Indigood program, which was launched in 2019, an initiative that targets water savings during fabric construction.

The initiative was launched around the Indigood Foam-Dye technology by its Wrangler brand. It replaces traditional water vats and chemical baths in a process that eliminates water from the process of conventional indigo dyeing.

The initiative has been expanded to include any water savings technology in the fabric construction phase of the supply chain that utilizes at least 90% less water in comparison to conventional fabric production.

As per Wrangler, with the help of the Indigood program, they have saved more than 7 billion liters of water in the finishing phase of denim manufacturing and have exceeded its 2020 goal of saving 5.5 billion liters. A new goal has been announced by the US denim label to reduce its water usage by 50% by 2030.

Another brand in Kontoor’s portfolio, Lee has also saved more than 1 billion liters of water with the help of this program. They also announced their new target last year to increase Indigood-dyed products every year through 2025.

In a release, the vice president of product development and direct procurement in Kontoor Brand, Jeff Frye said that water is one of our most essential and valuable natural resources hence they are focusing on advancing the sustainable and equitable management of water resources.

He added that to include additional water-saving technologies, they have increased the horizons of the Indigood program and provided their supplier the opportunity to select the water savings technologies that work best for their production. Along with this, they are meeting the growing consumer demand for products by not only focusing on the quality and appearance but also minimize the impact on the planet.
