Karnataka has always had a tradition of tapping the best across India and the world to trace a steady growth curve across diverse sectors of the economy. Minister for Textile, Baburao Chinchansoor on Saturday stated that the department plans to open eight textile parks in the coming months.

To set up these textile parks, they may require land in the range of 15 to 50 acres. They will be inaugurated in Bellary, Bijapur, Chamarajnagar, Channapatna, Davangere, Bagalkot, Mysore and Gulbarga.

Baburao Chinchansoor revealed that the modern textile policy of the government would attract around Rs 10,000 crores of investment and would provide jobs to over five lakh citizens. The already announced textile park in Yadgir which will require 1,000 acres of land, with an expenditure of Rs 1,000 crore, a number of companies have shown interest.

The state government has placed proposal of Rs.1,000 crore before the Centre to give aid to entrepreneurs in textile industry, setting up shop in Karnataka.

Sheep rearing which has been ignored all along is a major and most profitable occupation, with an over all trade turn-over of more than Rs. 2,000 a year, which is why it needs to be promoted. Stressing on encouraging wool weaving trade, a wool park is also being scheduled on a 27-acre plot in Ranibennur.
