J.Crew launches initiative to improve product & supply chain sustainability

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-04-23 08:06:09 – USA

J.Crew announced the introduction of "Re-imagined by J.Crew," an initiative aimed at achieving corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability targets in the areas of products, supply chain, the planet, and third-party partnerships

J.Crew's latest sustainability initiatives are designed to be a catalyst for transformation in the retail environment by improved ethical business practices, product innovation, and industry partnerships. They were developed in favor of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, a universal language for corporate responsibility and a platform for companies to take action against the greatest issues facing our society today.

Libby Wadle, J.Crew Group CEO said that they recognize that they have the potential to significantly affect multiple aspects of sustainability, including addressing problems deeper in their supply chain and assisting the industry's transformation to circularity. They are developing strategies to resolve the challenges that will have the greatest effect on their products, supply chain, and the clothing market by activating their workforce, collaborating with their stakeholders, and listening to their consumers.

As the J.Crew brand evolves, its contribution to CSR, which includes supporting factory workers, reducing the brand's environmental impact, and providing opportunities for associates to give back, remains a top priority.

Some of J.Crew's reimagined sustainability goals include Reimagined Fabrics- By 2025, 100% of main fibers, including 100% cotton, will be sustainably sourced; Reimagined Factories- By 2025, over 90% of J.Crew's cashmere and chino collections will be produced in Fair Trade Certifiedâ„¢ facilities; and Operations, Re-imagined- J.Crew processes will be carbon neutral by 2030, and 100% of the plastic and paper used for packaging will be sustainably sourced by 2025.

J.Crew is working with different organizations to integrate sustainability plans to reduce the environmental footprint as part of its "Re-imagined by J.Crew'' campaign to advance its CSR activities. The company has committed to setting a science-based goal with the SBTi by the end of 2021, as well as investing in the CanopyStyle initiative, a coalition of the apparel industry to help protect the world's existing Ancient and Endangered Forests and forward innovatively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its global supply chain.
