Inditex invests in Ambercycle for recycled polyester

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-10-25 17:19:54 – USA

The world's largest clothing retailer and the owner of Zara, Inditex, is making a significant investment in a startup called Ambercycle, based in Los Angeles. They plan to buy recycled polyester from Ambercycle as part of their commitment to use more sustainable materials.

Inditex aims to have a quarter of its fibers come from what they call 'next-generation' materials by the year 2030. Inditex is set to invest 70 million euros in Ambercycle, a company that specializes in making recycled polyester from old textiles.

Inditex is expected to purchase a significant amount of Ambercycle's recycled polyester, which is sold under the brand name "Cycora," over the course of three years. While the retail giant has confirmed the partnership, they haven't shared many details about it.

This investment from Inditex will help Ambercycle in funding its first large-scale textile recycling factory. Production of cycora at this factory is expected to begin around 2025, and the material will be incorporated into Inditex products over the following three years.
