A two days exhibition of Indian textiles was held to strengthen the trade between India and Ethiopia at the Sheraton Addis Hotel where 20 Indian textile companies participated in the exhibition by displaying their products for buyers.

The event was organized by Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association (ECCSA) along with Embassy of India and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council and it was opened on Wednesday, August 13, 2014.

Shri Srijubi Roy, Joint Director of the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council, said that exhibition is a unique platform to meet, connect and develop an excellent network particularly in the fastest growing man-made textile area and seek new business opportunities with Indian counterparts.

India’s Synthetic and Rayon Textiles industry is currently worth U.S $ 600 million and exports its products to more than 140 countries all over the world.

Gashaw Debebe, Secretary General of ECCSA, commented that the trade and investment has shown significant progress due to the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, Ethiopia is witnessing multi-billion dollar Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from India in various sectors of the economy as an increasing number of Indian investors and garments are enticed to the country.

India has a lot to share for Ethiopia’s textile industry, as it is one of the major exporters of Man-Made Fiber (MMF) textiles and self sufficient in production of all types of raw materials required for the industry. By joining hands, the business communities of the two nations can benefit much from the untapped textile sector.
