Indian duo creates world’s first indigo-dyed wool denim

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-10-13 15:03:07 – India

Satendra Singh, Founder of Indigotex, and Anurag Gupta have jointly introduced the world’s first indigo-dyed wool denim, a groundbreaking textile innovation unveiled at Lakme India Fashion Week. This patented process, a result of years of research and hardwork, promises to transform winterwear and redefine sustainability while opening up fresh opportunities in premium and functional fashion.

Unlike traditional denim manufacturing, Singh’s creation uses significantly less water, reduces chemical waste, and produces a sustainable fabric that combines the durability of denim with the softness and warmth of wool. When Gupta used this eco-friendly material in his latest fashion line, it drew attention across the industry for its refined appearance and environmentally responsible process.

“Conventional denim, made from cotton, lacks insulation and becomes uncomfortable in colder weather unless it’s layered or fleeced,” Singh explained. “We wanted a fabric that felt and looked like denim but offered warmth, breathability, and comfort without added bulk.”

With this process, Indigotex is able to manufacture denim with wool content ranging from 60% to 100%. It allows them a lightweight, breathable fabric with the same drape and texture as traditional denim while giving more softness, warmth, and versatility.
