Hyosung Advanced Materials receives ISCC PLUS Certification

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-10-16 19:20:19 – South Korea

Hyosung Advanced Materials has obtained the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLU, a global sustainability certification program for bio-based and circular raw materials.

The International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS, a global sustainability certification program for bio-based and circular (recycled) raw materials, has been acquired by Hyosung Advanced Materials Corp. (Hyosung Advanced Materials).

Products that adhere to the EU's Renewable Energy Directives (RED) are given the ISCC PLUS designation. As it necessitates stringent verification of the entire process, from raw material supply through production and distribution, this certification is acknowledged as being extremely reliable on a global scale.

Using eco-friendly raw materials like bio-based PET, mechanical recycled PET, and chemical recycled PET in its tirecord products, Hyosung Advanced Materials is the first tirecord manufacturer to receive the ISCC PLUS certification. Tirecords were created by Hyosung Advanced Materials utilizing sustainable materials, including "high-strength recycled PET yarn" and "industrial bio-PET yarn" made from waste PET bottles. In addition, the business is creating "bio-based nylon" yarn and tirecords to address a wider range of environmental concerns.

The sustainability certification for raw materials and other materials is not easy to achieve, but obtaining it has considerable significance as it shows the contribution to the growth of eco-friendly products in the downstream industries. Automakers, including BMW, are using more environmentally friendly materials as society's interest in sustainability grows. Hankook Tire & Technology and Bridgestone Corp., two major international tire manufacturers, have also earned the ISCC PLUS, indicating growing consumer interest in and demand for environmentally friendly products.

Hyosung Advanced Materials CEO Lee Kun-jong said that he believes that their efforts for R&D to promote sustainability have been recognized. Using this as a springboard, they'll expand their collaboration with clients around the world to dominate the market for environmentally friendly products.

The three strategic directions of green management that Hyosung Advanced Materials is pursuing are "Zero Emission," "Zero Waste," and "Zero Impact." To maintain up with the world's tire manufacturers, the company is transitioning to eco-friendly materials and plans to replace all of its current polyester tirecord by 2050 with sustainable materials. Additionally, the latest models of electric and fuel cell electric vehicle models now include car mats made of Bio-PET yarn from Hyosung Advanced Materials, whose industrial yarn has earned the GRS (Global Recycled Standard). Hyosung Advanced Materials is growing its eco-friendly product line in a variety of industry areas as a result.
