H&M’s latest Edition by collection uses innovative plant dyes

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2022-02-24 10:35:16 – Sweden

Fashion giant H&M, has launched their third Edition by collection, which celebrates brave and authentic men of style. The new collection combines elements of workwear, gorpcore, and streetwear, with a focus on utilitarian pieces produced with organic and recycled materials, as well as pioneering plant dyes, as part of the brand's ongoing commitment to forward-thinking design and sourcing.

The 23-piece collection uses a pioneering technique that blends plant extracts, natural clay, bio-resins, and natural enzymes to create organic colors without the use of harsh chemicals. The majority of the pieces were made up of mono-material compositions that can be easily recycled into new clothing at the end of their lives, aligning with the brand's circularity ambitions.

Ross Lydon, Head of Menswear Design at H&M, said that each Edition collection begins with a goal to push and innovate within our sustainability work. This season, it was important to use natural and plant-based coloring procedures. They’re really proud of their current aesthetic, which combines classic menswear pieces, the great outdoors, and practical allusions.

The cagoule jacket is a standout piece in the collection; it's made of 100% recycled nylon and comes in vibrant orange color with enormous cargo pockets that blur the border between city and outdoor wear. The denim in this collection is redesigned for the future using a more sustainable blend of organic and recycled cotton and comes in the styles of a jacket, jeans, and a boiler suit. These traditional workwear clothing are modernized with contemporary lightness thanks to their oversized fits, delicate indigo-dyed hues, and natural plated silver button hardware. Overshirts and jerseys, which are also totally comprised of organic and recycled cotton in plant-dyed colors, round off the appearance with their effortlessly relaxed fits.

The collection, which includes 23 clothes and three accessories, will be available on hm.com and in select shops starting March 10, 2022.
