Michigan-based global design manufacturer Herman Miller, Inc. (MLHR) announced the launch of a new sustainable textile collection where the fabric is made from all recycled and ocean-bound plastic materials. The collection is called Revenio which focuses on utilizing the latest sustainable textile innovations to reduce global waste, without sacrificing performance, aesthetics, or longevity.

In the Revenio collection, every yard is made using 7-15 bottles of plastic that are diverted from the ocean. This collection will redirect approximately 37,000 pounds (4.6 million) of discarded plastic bottles among which 1.37 million of those bottles will be collected from vulnerable coastline cities, where they will be stopped before reaching the ocean.

Director of Materials at Herman Miller  Elaine Gerbers said that this collection is their most sustainable textile collection to date. Through this collection, their commitment to creating a circular economy through the use of environment-friendly materials is amplified. They divert plastic from the landfill by utilizing 100% recycled content and introducing ocean-bound plastic which results in giving them new life by transforming them into beautiful new textiles. On top of this, at the end of a product's life, their new biodegradable textile also reduces the environmental impact.

By the addition of a biocatalyst in the yarn extrusion process, this 100% post-consumer biodegradable polyester can decompose in landfills and wastewater conditions at a rate similar to that of natural fibers (ASTM D5511). The biocatalyst in the yarn enables anaerobic digestion in landfill and wastewater treatment conditions. Along with this, these polyester fabrics can also be recycled and reused as raw materials again.

The Revenio Collection consists of 4 textiles and will be utilized in manufacturing Herman Miller seating and workspace solutions along with Herman Miller Group brands Geiger and naughtone. This includes Eames Molded Plywood Lounge, Sayl Chair, Dining Chairs, and Canvas Office Landscape.

The Revenio Collection includes Terra- industry's leading 100% post-consumer recycled biodegradable polyester, Scatter- a sustainable textile reminiscent of the intricacy and interest of recycled paper diverting 9 plastic bottles from reaching oceans per yard, Mellow- a sustainable, comfortable solution with softly tinted, tonal contrast in a cooling palette diverting 7 plastic bottles from reaching oceans per yard and Crepe made from ocean-bound plastic content diverting 15 plastic bottles from reaching oceans per yard.
