YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2019-08-30 11:45:00 –

Japanese designer Yuima Nakazato has created a haute couture collection for Paris Fashion Week in collaboration with synthetic spider-silk specialist Spiber.

The garments were created by harnessing a variety of Brewed Protein materials and blended textiles.

Brewed Protein is a new protein material developed by Spiber, created through a fermentation process, and which is not reliant on petroleum or animals.

Spiber has raised more than $275 million to develop its materials. The Japanese company is constructing of its first overseas plant, a structural protein production facility in Thailand.

Yuima Nakazato graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in 2008, as the youngest Japanese student to do so. In July 2016, he followed Hanae Mori to become the second Japanese national to be formally selected as a haute couture guest designer for Paris Fashion Week.
