HanesBrands release its 2021 sustainability summary report

HanesBrands Inc., a global leader in iconic garment brands, has released its 2021 Sustainability Summary Report, which details the company's progress and plans to meet aggressive sustainability targets by 2030.

Steve Bratspies, CEO of HanesBrands, said that at HanesBrands, sustainability is built into everything they do. From their iconic brands to source their materials to manufacturing their great products, sustainability is built into everything they do. They’re pleased with their leadership in this area, but they recognize that there is more work to be done. Most significantly, he wanted to express his gratitude to their 59,000 dedicated associates for the progress they've made thus far and for their continuous dedication to making the world a more pleasant place for everyone.

The sustainability reports highlight that around 1.4 million lives were impacted by HanesBrands’ philanthropic initiatives and associate and community programs; 9.4 million items of essential clothing were donated to 80 organizations and 49% of U.S. leaders at senior manager level and above are women.

HanesBrands were able to able to achieve set science-based emissions reduction targets for 2030, with an 11% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions; 48% of electricity came from renewable sources, and 92% of waste was diverted from landfills. They were able to use 61% sustainable cotton in HanesBrands products; reduce single-use plastics usage by 15% and reduce packaging weight by around 5%.

Chris Fox, HanesBrands’ chief sustainability officer, said that by setting ambitious targets and tracking their progress, they're demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices and continuing their long history of acting responsibly, ethically, and transparently. This involves making a positive difference in the lives of millions of people, dramatically decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to 100 percent sustainably sourced cotton, and ensuring they have a diverse and inclusive staff around the world.
