Good Earth Cotton partners with Impetus on carbon positive, traceable intimates collection

Good Earth Cotton, the world’s first carbon-positive cotton farm, has teamed up with Impetus, a leading Portuguese textile company, to develop the world’s first carbon-positive and fully traceable intimates collection.

Impetus’ intimates line, which uses Good Earth Cotton cotton, is backed by FibreTrace technology, a solution that makes the collection entirely traceable as it goes through the worldwide supply chain.

To assure best practice of regenerative smart farming practices, Good Earth Cotton is driven by data, innovation, and technology. Precision agriculture ensures that tillage and soil disturbance is kept to a minimum. Crop rotation, organic waste additives, and cover crops boost biodiversity and soil health while reducing the farming environmental footprint.

FibreTrace, on the other hand, is an Australian-based patented system that traces, verifies, and audits fiber in real-time at every stage of the global textile supply chain. The physical fiber is connected to a secure blockchain particularly built and engineered for the textile and clothing supply chain, with fiber, yarn, fabric, and finished items being identified and quantified.

Ricardo Figueiredo, general manager of Impetus Group, said that their partnership with Good Earth Cotton is an important step forward in their sustainability journey, as they seek to achieve complete supply chain traceability from farm to recycling and reuse. Their consumers can now have entire confidence in the Impetus products they buy, knowing exactly where their items have gone and how they have impacted the environment.

Good Earth Cotton traceable goods will be included in Impetus brand collections by the end of 2021 and will be available for purchase by 2022.

Earlier this year, FibreTrace and Leuchtstoffwerk Breitungen GmbH (LWB), a luminous materials expert, announced a strategic alliance targeted at advancing textile traceability.
