Global Fashion Agenda launches circular textile initiative

Global Fashion Agenda, a non-profit organization, is inviting brands and manufacturers to join its new initiative in Indonesia aimed at building a circular textile industry. The organization recently launched its circularity project in Indonesia during a live event, which brought together over 100 experts and stakeholders. The event included discussions on effective methods to manage textile waste.

Global Fashion Agenda is collaborating with Indonesia’s Sustainable Textile Chain (Rantai Tekstil Lestari – RTL) for this project, with support from partners such as Reverse Resources, Closed Loop Fashion, and Circle Economy Foundation. The initiative is being funded by the H&M Foundation along with private sector contributions.

The organization emphasized the importance of greater participation from brands, manufacturers, recyclers, waste handlers, and government bodies to help achieve large-scale impact through this collective action program.

Federica Marchionni, CEO of Global Fashion Agenda, highlighted that Denmark and Indonesia have been working together since 2018 to support a circular economy and better waste management. She expressed confidence that through collaboration with local stakeholders, recycling solutions in Indonesia can be scaled up, and the programs can be tailored to the specific needs of the region.

The project’s lead organization, RTL, will ensure that the program suits local conditions, engages key stakeholders, and aligns with government strategies. It will also work with relevant ministries to address any policy gaps.
