Women’s boutique chain Francesca's has announced to launch of a resale program named "Forever Francesca's" in an effort to reduce fashion waste. The brand will collaborate with ThredUP, one of the biggest online resale platforms in the world, to launch the new program.
Chief marketing officer Jann Parish, said that they are aware of the environmental impact apparel has on our planet, and our cooperation with ThredUP in establishing "Forever Francesca's" is a crucial first step in doing their part to make a difference.
Customers will be able to purchase used goods through the program and resale clothes, shoes, and accessories on ThredUP's Resale-as-a-Service platform. The collaboration between those businesses is a part of a growing retail trend to address the harmful effects of the fashion industry on the environment. The garment industry contributes 10% of the world's carbon emissions, and one garbage truck's worth of textiles are wasted every second, according to a report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
Customers can send used items from any brand to ThredUP through the program for no cost, and they will take care of cleaning, pricing, and selling them. By getting paid in the form of store credits, Francesca's promotes the reuse of apparel and gives customers a reason to come back and buy more.
The shift in customer demand may be seen in the roughly one billion secondhand clothes purchases that were done in 2021, according to ThredUP. Parish added that reselling is the ideal combination of those two experiences, who said that her Millennial and Gen-Z clients appreciate their eco-footprint while also visiting her shop in search of a fun opportunity to uncover something special.
