Four factories to join pilot launch of PrimaDollar’s ‘Factory Social Score'

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-12-24 09:50:07 – Bangladesh

PrimaDollar has signed agreements with four manufacturing groups in Bangladesh to pilot the new Factory Social Score system, with the help of its liaison office in Bangladesh and its Dhaka team. Over 2,000 people are employed by these factory organizations. Zoom Sweaters Ltd, Alib Composite Ltd, Bengal Knittex Ltd, and Climax Garb Ltd are the factory groupings.

The Factory Social Score system is a global solution for monitoring workplace social and governance performance as part of a global push to improve "ESG" (environmental, social, and governance) performance (Environmental, Social, and Governance matters). It was designed in both Bangladesh and London.

Bangladeshi factories are part of an international pilot project that involves Indian, Pakistani, and Turkish suppliers. PrimaDollar is leading the pilot, which has the support of a number of significant worldwide brands and importers.

The Factory Social Score assesses a workplace's social and governance credentials based on data submitted directly by its employees, from machinists to secretaries.

Tim Nicolle, Group CEO of PrimaDollar, said that they’ve carefully constructed the worker app and factory social score system so that it is acceptable and beneficial for factory owners, while offering crucial transparency to overseas purchasers. Bangladesh is already setting the standard for garment industry regulations and regulations, and their worker app can now show the world the outcomes.

Munawar Uddin, country manager of the PrimaDollar Liaison office in Banani, Dhaka, said that they’ve worked hard with their London office and their vast technology team to build, polish, and launch this app. Perhaps this will become one of the most significant contributions to maintaining and even increasing worker conditions around the world - and he is particularly pleased with Bangladesh's leadership.

Mahfuz Ikbal, director of Zoom Sweaters Ltd said that their overseas purchasers are really interested in understanding how we look after the workers in their factories, which are the lifeblood of their business. They will directly share their scores with them, sure that this would significantly improve their reputation and standing with both existing and potential new clients.

MA Matin, chief operating Officer of Alib Composite Ltd. commented that whilst the first time they heard of this app, they thought it to be something of concern. After spending time with the PrimaDollar Bangladesh team, they realized how well-thought-out the app's design and implementation were. This should be a fantastic initiative in Bangladesh, and it will help them acquire more business and please their overseas consumers with their quality standards.

HO Rashid, managing director of Climax Garb Ltd, said that they were happy that PrimaDollar selected them as a pilot candidate for the debut of the worker app, and they are convinced that their workplace would score highly.

According to the statement, the Factory Social Score is a new type of data known as "Real-time ESG" data that is enabling a new wave of activities to bring environmental, social, and governance change across global marketplaces.

Information is collected through an app that manufacturing workers install on their phones with the help of plant management. It's a constant monitoring system that polls workers' opinions on seven key social issues, including salary, working conditions, safety, and treatment. The responses of the workers are kept anonymous.

Their responses are used in real-time, together with other data, to build the Factory Social Score, which subsequently becomes part of the factory's automatic data flow supporting every shipment.

Large purchasers and their financiers are increasingly requesting Factory Social Scores in order to manage their legal, regulatory, and brand duties in their home markets, particularly in regards to how employees are treated in their supply chains.
