Apparel is a new sector introduced by the Directorate of Education, Goa under the vocational education scheme and for the first time by class nine students of Government High School (GHS), Shigao Collem celebrated Apparel day.
On the occasion of Apparel Day, eighteen students showcased the work done by them this academic year in theory as well as practically through an exhibition.
There were many counters set for the exhibition; some were demonstration counters whereas others displayed students’ work.
Counter of demonstration included: hand sewing techniques and embroidery, braiding and floor rug making using braiding technique, flower loom of two different styles; fabric construction using plain weave and design and development of handkerchiefs.
Exhibit counters included: garment construction equipment, tools and machinery; textiles used for a table layout; home furnishing and made-ups which included window textiles, kitchen textiles and bed textiles; textile designing – using different motifs and mediums, tie and dye stoles and journals.
