Fitesa launches eco-friendly fabrics using Braskem’s HDPE

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-05-07 15:22:49 – Brazil

Fitesa, one of the leading global producers of nonwoven materials, is launching a new collection of spunbond fabrics made from Braskem’s I’m green bio-based high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Made from sugarcane-based bioethanol, this grade of I’m green™ bio-based PE helps reduce the overall carbon emissions of the final product.

Braskem’s I’m green bio-based polyethylene offers ideal melting points, making it easier to create strong filaments while maintaining the same level of durability and performance as regular polyethylene. These fibres can be recycled through existing polyethylene recycling systems. They also provide clear and trackable bio-based content that meets current industry guidelines.

Targeting the absorbent hygiene products (AHPs) segment, Fitesa and Braskem have built a dependable supply chain for converters and have long-term production capacity to keep up with increasing demand.

“We are proud to bring our latest I’m green™ bio-based HDPE product to market,” said Gustavo Lombardi, director of biopolymers business development at Braskem. “This marks an important step forward in our I’m green™ product line for nonwovens and supports the hygiene sector’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and fight climate change, all while ensuring product quality and performance remain intact.”
