Evonik and AMSilk, a global leader in advanced biomaterials based on silk proteins, have strengthened their collaboration with a long-term agreement to produce sustainable silk proteins at an industrial scale.
Building on their 2023 manufacturing partnership, the two companies have set up a dedicated production line at Evonik’s biotech hub in Slovakia for AMSilk’s high-performance silk. This biomaterial, created with low environmental impact, is intended for premium fashion and demanding automotive interiors.
“Our collaboration with AMSilk shows how biotechnology can transform the future of materials,” said Guido Skudlarek, Head of Evonik’s Health Care business line. “By scaling sustainable silk protein production, we are not only broadening our precision biosolutions portfolio, but also creating innovative solutions that improve life and push the boundaries of what’s possible.”
After production, AMSilk converts the silk protein powder into high-performance yarns. These yarns meet strict regulatory standards, ensure full supply chain transparency from European manufacturing, and are sustainable, made from renewable plant-based carbon, leaving no microplastics at the end of their lifecycle.
